In a unique partnering between a small business and a school of social work, VetAdvisor® recruits and hires graduates of the University of Southern California (USC) School of Social Work as coaches, and all of our non-veteran employees have completed USC’s Military Culture continuing education course, giving VetAdvisor® services a true value-added differentiator. With an ability to concentrate on Military Social Work and Veteran Services, USC graduates are uniquely qualified to work with military veterans. By providing an employment pipeline for alumni of this prestigious program, VetAdvisor® has positioned itself as a premier provider of proactive preventative care for military veterans.

VetAdvisor and the Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) partnered in a nationwide Veterans Job Retention Survey in order to gather data to help understand the reasons behind veteran employee attrition and increase veteran job retention. As the first institute of its kind in the nation, the IVMF leverages the intellectual, programmatic and human capital resources of higher education in support of the post-service life course of the nation’s veterans and military families. The IVMF focuses on developing impactful programming, cultivating actionable research, conducting policy analysis and providing technical assistance positioned to address the social, economic and public policy challenges facing the veterans’ community.

VetAdvisor® and Dr. Michael Smith, Director of Johns Hopkins University Center for Behavior and Health, have partnered to collect the data necessary to understand veteran sleep issues by conducting a national veteran sleep survey. Johns Hopkins’ sleep expert Smith serves as the survey’s primary research partner. Smith developed questions aimed at helping to delineate the multiple potential causes of sleep disturbances in the veteran population and the extent to which these causes may be amenable to behavioral and coaching–related interventions. An important dimension of the survey is to understand the barriers that veterans face with respect to seeking appropriate medical and/or behavioral health treatment for their sleep problems.

Fitbit’s sensitive 3-D motion sensor tracks details a pedometer can’t catch, showing exact steps taken, calories burned, and distance traveled and its altimeter tracks floors climbed. The Fitbit tracks real-time stats and when docked uploads those stats so that users can join groups and provide each other encouragement via social networks. This social engagement, coupled with self- monitoring and tracking, allows the VetAdvisor® coach to help the veteran meet fitness and wellness goals and achieve increased motivation and adherence.
